Carers Support
Adult Carer's
If you help look after a relative, friend or neighbour and are not employed to do so, then you qualify as a carer. Carer's make a vital contribution by giving their time and energy to caring for a relative, friend or neighbour. Many people with care and support needs rely on the person caring for them to help keep them independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
You may be caring for the person in a home, or their home for a few hours a week, or you offer support every day. However much you care about the person you are looking after, it is important that you look after yourself too. There are likely to be times when you need a break or need some additional help and support from elsewhere to reduce the strain on you. The council can offer a number of services to help support you in your caring role.

Carer's Assessment
As a carer you are eligible to a range of support including financial assistance to make caring easier for you. The Carer's Assessment allows us to see whether you are eligible for support. This will allow us to put together a support plan to show you how your caring needs will be met.
However, if you are not eligible for a full Carer's Assessment, you may still be able to receive help and support in other ways.
